  1. The Library may be used by enrolled students of the University and members of staff. Others should obtain permission from the University Librarian before using the Library.
  2. No brief-case or handbag is allowed in to the library
  3. Smoking is prohibited in the library.
  4. Eating and drinking are not allowed in the library, unless within the designated areas.
  5. Silence must be observed in and around the library.
  6. The use of mobile phone is not allowed in the library
  7. Admission of users in to the library is granted only on the production of an identity card.
  8. The following materials are only for use within the Library:
  9. Reference books
  10. Reserve books
  11. Manuscripts
  12. Rare books
  13. Theses
  14. Microform
  15. Current and bound volumes of journals
  16. Any other material excluded from borrowed items
    1. Reading tables and chairs must not be moved from their positions.
    2. Readers should not reserve seats in the library. Any seat not physically occupied by a reader can be used by another reader
    3. Students and other users must not attempt to put books back on the shelves. Once taken off the shelves, the book (s) should be left on the table.
    4. No person shall be allowed to borrow any book(s) or any other item until it has been properly processed.
    5. No any book(s) or any other item should be taken out of the Library until it has been properly issued to him/her by the library staff responsible for loaning library items out.
    6. It is a very serious offence to remove or damage any part of library item.
    7. Library items for loan may be borrowed by a member of senior staff for a period of one month and by students and others for a period of 14 days.
    8. Fines are levied on all overdue books.
    9. Students are allowed to borrow up to 5 books at a time, while the teaching staff are allowed up to 15.
    10. Readers are advised to take away their papers, books and other belongings whenever they are leaving the library
    11. On leaving, all persons must surrender their books, papers and other items to the Library official for inspection.
    12. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken on any person who violates any of these rules
 
About the Library PDF Print E-mail

Bayero University Library system took root in 1964 with the creation of Abdullahi Bayero College as the Kano Campus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The library began in a temporary single room and later moved to its main building located in the old campus of the university in 1968. Today, with gradual growth of the university, the Library Complex is made up of nine service points; including its magnificent headquarter located in the main campus of the university.

Collections

The collections of the Library, which amount to about 300, 000 cut across books and non books material in all fields of knowledge with emphasis to the university’s programmes. The Library also subscribes to number of international and local journals, acquires both local and international newspapers and magazines.

In addition, the Library has acquired thousands of electronic resources in various fields of knowledge as stand alone and networking servers. It also has subscriptions with online electronic databases such as EBSCOHOST and JSTOR.

 

Special Collections

Bayero University Library has large number of Arabic manuscripts such as works of Usman Fodio, Muhammad Bello and Abdullahi Gwandu that treat religious, social, political and economic issues. Other special collections are colonial reports, government and non governmental documents and dissertations.

 

e-Theses

The Library has recently embarked on developing electronic data base of Post Graduate theses of Bayero University. The data base allows searching by author’s name, title and key word as well reading abstract and full text.

 

Units and Sections of the Library

Bayero University Library is organized in to various units and sections according to their functions and services. The Units are Administration, Reader Services, Technical Services, Branches, and Automation while the sections which all or some may be available in Branch Libraries are Circulation, Serials, Reserve, Arabic and reference.

The Library’s functions reflects the aims and aspirations of Bayero University of adding to knowledge through research and reflection, teaching and learning as well as training students to become good citizens.

In support of these functions of the University the Library performs the following basic functions:

  • Identifying and acquiring relevant reading and research material such as books and journals in print and non print medium.
    • Organising and making available for research and learning the acquired material to faculty, students and other members of the university community.
      • Providing and maintaining conducive atmosphere for learning and research to faculty, students and other members of the university community.
